E-waste, Packaging waste, deforestation, plastic pollution and Climate change are the 4 big existential challenges of our time. Every government has policies and targets on all 4, we also have the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. What we need is for more countries to embrace the circular economic model. That is an economy where everything including waste has value, and the future will be safeguarded.
Why the Circular Economy is Best
The plastic pollution problem is with us because it’s very cheap to produce plastic and expensive to recycle, it’s density (weight per volume) is a big advantage in manufacturing, and a massive dis-advantage in recycling. The Circular Economic Model is the best plan to manage these problems. Once plastic ends up everywhere, our water, soil and air becomes more polluted. Other materials on the other hand, can be collected and the cost recovered. The only material where the cost of collection more than outweighs the value is plastic, all other materials are or can be made to have a value of recycling that outweighs the cost. Glass, metal, paper are all widely recycled but plastic is not. The Circular economy for all is the answer, that’s where governments should be investing. So there can be increased environmental protection and green job creation.
Planning for the Future in the Best Way
Let us decide not to stay trapped in the present system that is causing more pollution each day. We can begin protecting our natural resources and living in a much healthier way, with decreased air , soil and water pollution. The children are learning about environmental protection in a new and simple way. They are aware of the need for more recycling, reusing and reducing, as they prepare to become the ones who will develop new clean energy alternatives.
How we Benefit from Living the Circular Lifestyle
Added to the fact that we will be reducing the need for landfills. The air, water and soil pollution problems generated by plastic can be decreased. The circular lifestyle will cause us to recycle more and save money, protect the environment, conserve our natural resources and grow our economies in a sustainable way.
